Points for Kennaugh at wet Donington Park.
Hudson Kennaugh and his Carbon Can Company Yamaha survived difficult on track conditions to come home in a point scoring thirteenth place at round two of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship at Donington Park.
The weather caused chaos all weekend and it was so bad on race day that the Supersport race had to be postponed. As usual the bulk of free practice and qualifying had been dry so Kennaugh had an excellent dry set up but no wet set up. “It has been a very good weekend and I’m happy to have picked up some points,” he said “It was a big improvement over Brands Hatch that is for sure. My team and Raceways are working really hard to improve the bike and it is really starting to take shape.”
The Superstock race got under way in wet conditions and as expected there were numerous fallers. The crashes started on the warm up lap and escalated through the race itself. “Donington is the slipperiest track I have ever ridden on,” exclaimed Kennaugh “My bike was spinning up in a straight line so I had to take it easy because the more aggressive you get the further back you go.” Kennaugh stayed on board his machine unlike quite a few others but he did have a lucky escape early in the race, “There were tonnes of crashes and on the second lap someone binned it right in front of me at Goddards. I touched his bike and that put me from eighth to fifteenth in one go,” he said.
With another tough weekend out of the way Kennaugh is now focusing on the new challenge that is posed by Thruxton. “It was good to rescue some points this weekend and I am looking forward to Thruxton. I don’t know the circuit but I’ve heard it is very fast, I don’t mind the speed I just want constant weather either wet or dry all weekend!”
The third round of the Metzeler National Superstock Championship takes place at Thruxton on Friday 14th April, Sunday 16th and race day Monday 17th.
